Authors. Let’s talk AUDIO BOOKS.
(Even on your “old” books)
I’ve produced a bunch of these, and it takes planning…
– Recording can take a week or more of your life (a few hours a day)
– It’s grueling. But don’t let a robot or narrator read your book. Buyers will appreciate it.
– Depending on how clean of a reader you are (cough!) there will need to be editing.
This can be DIY or outsourced to an editor
– Speaking of editing, when you read your book,
you’ll probably find things you want to change. 😃
Consider recording *before* the paperback/Kindle is submitted to Amazon.
(Did I mention that I always coach writers to read their drafts out loud?)
– You can have fun recording and go off-script.
Listeners appreciate spontaneity and emotion!
– Amazon/Audible has very particular formats and standards.
Be clear on these before you start. (I can send you the specs)
You don’t need to go to a studio, but you do need a professional microphone.
– Depending on the genre, authors can sometimes expect
10%-30% of their sales to come from audio.
Many buyers only purchase audiobooks! And you can give away audio files to colleagues and potential clients.
